Former Defense Minister Mircea Dușa died on Monday, December 19, at the age of 67, after a long battle with cancer.
The announcement was made by Romeo Focşa, PSD President Harghita, on the group of PSD branch leaders.
„I am sorry to announce that former Minister Mircea Dușa has died!”, wrote Romeo Focşa.
Mircea Duşa was 67 years old and had been ill for several months.
This summer, Mircea Dușa was taken over by an ambulance and transported to the hospital, after being harmed during a visit he was making, together with the Deputy Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO), Mircea Geoana, at the headquarters of the 51st Battalion Special Operations „Eagles” from Târgu Mureş.
„I saw my good friend, Mircea Duşa, the former Minister of Defense, who was with us on this visit, leaving the presentation room. After that, Mr. Rector of Azamfira informed us that he had a medical incident that seems quite serious and we all witnessed the departure of the ambulance that took him … I hope, with all my heart, to overcome this difficult moment. He simply took us all by surprise and we wish Mircea health and speedy recovery „, says Geoana.

Since 2012 he has been interior minister in the first Ponta government. After 21 December 2012, he was Minister of National Defense in the governments of Ponta 2, 3 and 4. On 4 November 2015, resigning Prime Minister Victor Ponta proposed that the Dusha take over the interim leadership of the government. However, President Klaus Iohannis did not accept Ponta’s proposal.
Since 2001 he was prefect of Harghita County, and in 2004 and 2008 he was elected deputy de Harghita from PSD. On December 10, 2019, he resigned as prefect of Mureș County.
